Auxiliary adj. a spouse or significant other who:
understands Fire Department Radio Traffic
knows the words "Attention Lafayette Township stand-by for dispatch" can (and usually will) interrupt school plays, holiday dinners and vacation plans
has spent more hours worrying than will ever be admitted
has heard every firefighter story more than once
knows how to raise money
knows how to raise spirits
knows how to fry chicken for 300
understands that sometimes we see things too difficult to talk about
understands that we live to dance with the devil, fight the dragon, eat the smoke and save the life
understands that it takes someone special to be a firefighter
and someone very special to love them
knows that even if we do not tell them often enough their love, support and understanding
make our job worthwhile and are appreciated more than we can ever say.
