The Lafayette Township Fire Department recently held its Christmas Party and Awards Banquet. For years, the Fire Chief has had the honor of choosing an outstanding member of the Department for the prestigious Firefighter of the Year Award. Most of the LTVFD firefighters deserve special recognition for the time and effort they contribute from their lives in keeping us safe. The Fire Chief, however, must try and select someone that gave that extra amount that deserves this highest award. The choice again this year was a difficult one to make; therefore, the decision was made to name co-winners. Because of the efforts of both of these LTVFD members, Jeff Miller and John Miller were given the honor of 2005 Firefighters of the Year.
Jeff and John Miller are identical twins. Both joined our Department in January of 2004 after serving on another Department since 1999. Since the day they joined LTVFD, both have given a great deal of time and effort for the betterment of Lafayette Township. In keeping with their birth rights, their efforts are almost identical. Jeff and John responded to almost the same number of emergency runs, required trainings, and certifications. Both have received certifications in Hazmat Operations, CPR, First Responder, Swiftwater Rescue Technician, Heavy Rescue and Extrication Technician, and NIMS Certification. This year, both are in the process of studying for Firefighter I and II and EMT certifications. All of this as volunteers, while both working locally to make a living. It is the honor of LTVFD, along with Lafayette Township, to name such outstanding members as Firefighters of the year.
