At approximately 11:00 a.m. , units received a call that the intersection of Paoli Pike and Scottsville Rd
was flooded. Engine 11, Command 1, and Command 3 responded. Units arrived on scene to find a
water main had broken and buckled the roadway. Units on scene closed one lane of Paoli Pike and
directed traffic to prevent an accident and/or injury. After approximately 3 hours the water company
and private contractor arrived to repair the main.  
At approximately  17:30  units were dispatched to 3256 Lawrence Banet Rd on an MVA with injuries.
Rescue 1, Engine 11, Command 2 and Command 3 responded. Units arrived on scene to find a pickup
truck had crossed the road to play tag with a large brick mailbox. Chief 1101 was Command and Chief
1103 was operations. Units assessed the scene and found they had one patient with minor injuries.
Patient was treated on the scene by the fire departments first responders. Yellow EMS arrived on the
scene and then transported the patient to Floyd Memorial Hospital for further evaluation. Units cleared
the scene just before a severe thunderstorm with high winds, hail and lightning moved into the area.
At approximately  19:30, during the storm, units were dispatched to 5300 Smith Rd on a propane tank
that had been struck by lightning and was on fire. Command 1,Command 2,Command 3, Engine 11,
Rescue 1, and Tanker 12 all responded. Command 2 and Command 3 arrived on scene to find a 500
Gallon Liquid Propane tank that had been struck by lightning and with a working fire. Engine 11
arrived on scene with Command 1. Chief 1101 took command with 1103 being operations. Engine 11  
pulled 2 - 1 3/4" hand lines with adjustable nozzles and set up to advance on the tank to shut off the
gas valve. Tanker 12 arrived on the scene and set up for a nursing operation to supply Engine 11.
Rescue 1 crew arrived on scene and assisted Engine 11. Units successfully shut the valve off and
continued to cool the tank. EMA arrived and assisted units in checking the house for gas with a gas
detector, and discovered that the water line inside the structure had been hit by lightning and was
leaking as well. Units on the scene then shut off the water service. The incident was controlled with
very minor damage.
