Saturday, February 11, 2012 Lafayette Twp. responded to a mutual aid request on a basement fire on Murvin Dr. in the New Albany Twp District. Upon New Chapel Fire Co. arrival on scene they found wiring to a hot water heater had shorted out and started a fire in the wall next to the water heater. As the fire progressed, the PVC piping to the water heater had melted and began spraying water on the fire. Thus, suppressing it until the home owner could extinguish the rest of the fire with a dry powder extinguisher. Crews opened the wall and removed burnt insulation and debris making sure the fire was fully out. The fire was contained to the area of origin and the home sustained minimal damage.
