Keep Your Family Fire Safe

Keep matches and lighters out of little hands

Teach your children to dial 9-1-1 in emergencies

Keep a fire extinguisher in a handy place and know how to use it

Never leave appliances running while you are asleep or away from home

Make a family fire escape plan and PRACTICE!

Install smoke detectors and check them often Change batteries several times a year Make sure your children know what the detector sounds like

Have your chimney professionally cleaned and safety checked

KNOW THE LAW. IT IS ILLEGAL TO BURN OUTDOORS IN FLOYD COUNTY

Because of unacceptably high ozone levels in Lake, Porter, Clark and Floyd counties, open burning of residential waste is illegal.

Please make note that ALL outdoor burning is illegal. This includes burning leaves, garbage, yard waste, bon fires, and fireplaces or pits.
